I have Spring Fever something fierce. Getting motivated to grade a bunch of 3rd grade reading worksheets is daunting and I'm just not interested. The kids are beginning to be more interested in sleeping in class than anything else. Frankly I don't blame them either. They still have the Math TAKS to take in a couple of weeks so everyone on the 3rd grade team is holding math tutorials for an hour in the middle of the day. At the same time there are several Reading remediation classes taking place to help the 9 little kids that did not pass the Reading TAKS. They will have two days of tests back to back. Poor guys.
Last night my loving husband invited me along to Minute Maid Park to watch the Astros Opening Day Game with the Marlins. It was a good game and the Astros won, but I was so tired from being at school all day. I was worried about going out instead of staying home to grade papers. But I decided the papers would be there when I got around to them and a night out with my husband was really what I needed. However, I was longing for a morning to sleep in today, but wouldn't you know I pulled morning duty this week. I have to be on duty in the gym by 7:20 a.m. Not too early for some people, but I would much rather wake up slowly sipping my coffee and lounging around in my houserobe until 1:00.
I am getting to have a weekend with the girls though. I'm looking forward to taking off this Friday to attend the Woman's Conference in Houston on Friday and Saturday. Some of my friends are even coming back here to spend the night with me like we are young girls again. Should be fun. That's only the beginning of the weekend.
Saturday night the cast of "Sordid Lives" the play at our community theater, will have their party here at my house after the show. Its a late night party, but I look forward to that too because those theater people are just plain fun. Especially since half of them are related to me.
Sunday we are going on a picnic with our church group after morning services. Then Kim will have to go to the theater for the matinee. My grades are due for the term on Monday morning so the rest of Sunday will be spent preparing them to be downloaded. By the time Monday night rolls around, I'm going to crash.
I should be used to this job and the way the end of the year starts moving as fast as a ball rolling down a mountain. My students and I still have a field trip to the Houston Planetarium and Butterfly Exhibit coming up right after those TAKS tests are over. I can't let up my momentum yet even though I wish I could.
Just 35 days until our Summer break. The countdown begins. Oh and just in case any of you 12 month working types are getting ready to tell me I'm lucky to get the summer off...believe me, I've put in the summer hours after my workday has officially ended. I'm just as much a 12 month worker as anyone. I just have to stay late and work almost every night to make it up. Trust me, it's time for the break to get here.
All teachers are ready to rest and relax on the beaches, lakes and in condos. Its time to stay up late watching old movies and sleeping in the next morning. My days of teaching are numbered and I won't be sad to see this year end. So turn up the CD player so I can listen to the music of lazy days. I'm ready.

Can't wait 'til Friday! We are going to have such a great time at the conference!! It will be just the boost you need to get you through until the end of school.
OH yes! I'm so ready to be finished with school. Not so much the year because it hasn't been too bad. I just feel like some days I am still the mother of little boys. You know what I mean?
Anyway, I'm looking forward to this weekend so much. I might have to take another day off just to recouperate. (sp.)

ML,
I read your comments on Deana's blog. I don't remember a c0c on llano street in Port Neches. I thought there was only one and it was on the corner of Nall and Magnolia. I am in my early 40's and attended the Port Neches COC until I was a teenager (around'79) when I moved over to the 39th st COC which later merged with the Twin City Hwy COC and became Groves COC. My maiden name was Collins. Some of the people I went to church with were the Dunlap's, Dorsey's, Self's, Savages, Melton's and Brown's. I know there are others but can't remember too many right now. If you will comment on my blog and tell me your maiden name I can ask my parents if they knew you. My parents started going to the Port Neches CoC in 1956 when they first got married (they just had their 50th in March)
I'm glad you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I kind of feel the same way about my dissertation, although it probably won't be over until July or August. Even then, only if I can get enough participants for my research. Please shoot off as much prayers you can that I can get through this. This stage is proving to be much more difficult than I ever thought.
Sorry to bombard your blog with so many post but I just figured out who you are. I read further down in your post until I came to the one about Elton Ritchey. I remember Brother and Sister Ritchey very well from Port Neches. I am sorry I don't remember you but as I said before you are about 10 years older than me. My parents knew your parents very well. Small world huh! My Dad was a step brother to Louise Dunlap and her husband Kervel was an elder along with your Dad. We always referred to them as Aunt Louise and Uncle Kervel. Glad we solved that mystery. I am sorry to hear that both your parents have past on but know there will be a great reunion one day!
Yes, Louise and Kerval were dear friends of my parents. yes it is a small world. I graduated from PNG in 1970. I'm sure I'd know your parents. What were their names? I left for ACU in 1970 and married in 1974. I've lived in Baytown ever since. So I may have missed you. I came back for the last service in the old church building back right after my mother passed away in 1993.
What a nice connection.

I would have been about 6 years old when you left for ACU. My parents are TJ and Wanda Collins. My brother Gary is the Fire Chief for Nederland now. I remember your parents very well. They were a great couple. Sweet folks. I talked to my mom and she knew exactly who you were and even remembered that you lived in Baytown. I am sure you would know her if you saw her.
I was just instant messaging with my mom and she made me aware of another connection with you. She was friends with cynthia (your sister in law) I believe. I remember Mom talking about Cynthia and her battle with cancer. I also know that she gave my mom a bracelet right before she passed to thank her for being so kind to her. I am probably getting some of the details wrong but I do remember Mom talking about Cynthia and that she worked in the beauty shop
Mak,
yes, my sister in law Cynthia had a beauty shop in Beaumont. I do remember TJ and Wanda Collins. that is so weird though because I barely remember you being born. I guess because of our age difference and I went away to college. So glad to hear from you and that your parents are going to celebrate their 50th anniversity. That's great.
Here, here!
Have fun at WOF!!! I wish I could be there, but this big 'ol breech baby has me nice and grounded at home. Enjoy it and let the Spirit fill you up to the brim!!
